These don't effect just football. 5A-2A will have four playoff teams per district and they will be adding a 6A division.
Looking back at last year's standings, there are a few good teams that missed the playoffs that would have benefited, but there are also a lot of bad teams that lucked out on missing the playoffs.
The four team playoffs will start in the 2013-2014 year with 6A beginning in the 2014-2015 season.

I really like the 6A idea, because hopefully it suppressed the gap between the classes and makes the enrollments closer together.  I do think schools at the bottom of the enrollment tiers are at a distinct disadvantage to the ones near the top of the enrollment threshold. Especially in 2A-3A, where you can have a team with double the enrollment in the same class playing against each other.  I'm not a huge fan of 4 teams in the playoffs.  I was fine with it in 4A-5A because many of those districts have 8-9 teams in it.  I know why they want to change from 3 to 4 teams, to eliminate the bye.  They think thats somewhat of a disadvantage to teams winning district to have to sit and not have a game.  Someone told me a stat where almost half the teams that win their district dont win their first playoff game.  I think that has more to do with the opponent than the bye.  But I'm sure UIL wants a good reason to have more games and more $$$.

Same amendment creating 6A also forces charters to play in the smallest class of its home attendance district. Could be disasterous for some

So apparently we won't be seeing Triple A in single A for too long.

Won't complain about that...
I think that is a pretty fair rule. Too easy to recruit players from these 5A powerhouses and dominate the smaller classifications. Just looking at Triple A's schedule, they feel like they could compete at the 4A and 5A level. Maybe that is where they should be...

6A will be what 5A is now. Uil is not adding a conference they are just making 1A div2 1A..and moving everybody else up one. 1a div 1 will be 2A, 2a will become 3a ect...
