This is my playoff picks based on what I've seen so far...I'll do another one probably around February. Feel free to nitpick as needed. The ??? Are the only ones I'm almost clueless about.

W20 Grapeland
Bye.

R17 LaPoynor
T18 Hubbard

W18 Cayuga
Bye.

R19 Axtell.
T20 Slocum

W24 Dallardsville Big Sandy.
Bye.

R21 Alto.
T22 Gary

W22 Tenaha.
Bye.

R23 West Sabine.
T24 Colmesneil???

W19 Mart.
Bye.

R18 Kerens.
T17 Big Sandy

W17 Martins Mill.
Bye.

R20 Lovelady.
T19 Bosqueville???

W23 San Augustine.
Bye.

R22 Joaquin.
T21 Wells???

W21 New Summerfield.
Bye.

R24 Sabine Pass???
T23 Broaddus

Grapeland over LaPoynor

Cayuga over Axtell

Big Sandy over Alto

Tenaha over West Sabine

Mart over Kerens

Martins Mill over Lovelady

San Augustine over Joaquin

New Summerfield over Broaddus

Round before regional tournament

Cayuga over Grapeland

Big Sandy over Tenaha

Mart over Martins Mill

San Augustine over New Summerfield

Regional Tournament

Cayuga vs Big Sandy

Mart vs San Augustine

I think LaPoynor controls their own destiny, if they can find a way to win district then they might could sneak into the regional tournament over Mart or Kerens. Grapeland vs Cayuga will be a dogfight. Tenaha has a good chance to beat Big Sandy. San Augustine is very good and benefits from possibly the easiest slot of the district winners.

There will be a lot of good basketball in Region III this year. I hate that Grapeland and Cayuga have to play so early. That is a game meant for TJC instead of being played in Palestine or Fairfield...
As for how that game goes (if it happens), it will be a good one. Cayuga struggles getting out and running with athletic teams, but if the Wildcats can slow the pace, they can pick Grapeland apart like they did last year. It won't get any easier from there with Big Sandy probably waiting in the Regional Semifinal, and then the slew of teams that can come up from the other half of the bracket.

I'm with topher. It will be a shame to see Cayuga and Grapeland play so early, but there is a lot of district for both teams before then. Cayuga has Kerens in their district, so they have to take care of business to get there.

I do not think that if they do face each other it will be a blowout game like last years was though. The Preston Anderson-Pat Walker showout will be awesome!

I didn't say they start slow, but Cayuga is not built to be a running team. They are a very good team, and can put up a lot of points, but they don't press teams into submission like they did when Malcome Kennedy and crew were there. They are a built to be a half court team, and can pick defenses apart from anywhere on the court. Rigdon showed that last night against Hubbard, Preston is going to always do his thing, and Deon in the post is a force.
I think the road to Austin will run through Cayuga this year.
