Just heard that the UIL is going to put 4 teams into the playoffs in all sports 2A-5A. 1A will only send 3 per district. Thoughts?

As I understand it's only been proposed, and would not in any case be adopted in time for this upcoming season.

My thoughts are I generally don't like it, but not worked up enough about it to complain much.

Mixed emotions. Obviously the better teams will prevail each week, just like they do now, but there are going to be some LOPSIDED scores in the first couple of rounds. I know there are blowouts already, but some kids are going to be flat out embarrassed.
On the other hand, some of these seniors will get at least one more game, and these tougher districts will give another good team a shot at the playoffs.

I agree with Tophers comments.  I know this is probably all about money, but there are pros and cons to this.  I think there are lots of districts where getting 3rd place and going to the playoffs is something to celebrate, but getting 4th place would seem more like a consolation prize than an accomplishment.  If my team made the playoffs by getting 4th place, I dont think I'd want them hanging a playoff banner unless they somehow won a few playoff games.  The one thing I think that would be good is that the 1st place team will have an opponent to play in the first round rather than have a bye.  I know some teams like the rest though and others would like to play so i'm sure coaches and players would give you different answers depending on who you ask on that topic.

Its not a money deal it is to eliminate byes in first round. 1 or 2 to playoffs is good. 3 is not. they will never go.backward so 4 is where we are headed. if its a blowout so what. it will have more meaning than a warmup game. it is also being done bc of the geography of realignmemt. strong to weak districts. a third place team beat a district champion by 40 last yr in area round. for example

It may eleminate a bye, but it is still a money deal, especially in football.

5 classifications, 2 state champs in each class, 4 teams from each district. I'm all for kids being able to compete and get a taste of the playoffs but this is getting out of hand. Just cut out non district games start with district the first week then let everyone make the playoffs. Every athlete will be on a playoff team and by the third round the ones that deserved it "should" still be playing. Also each team that is not victorious should be called the non winner instead of loser. It just sounds nicer. SMH

not teaching the kids anything about life...Getting 4th in a job interview will not cut it for example.

Flair, your wrong its not just 2 state champs for every classification. There are 4 state champs for 1A(200 enrolment and below).
