Any dominant teams in east Texas this year? Any classification?

Grapeland and Oakwood jump out first to me, but I think their schedules will keep them from being dominant until district play, and even then Oakwood should see a good challenge from Douglass or Laneville. Come playoff time, Grapeland will still have to navigate a very tough Region III that features Tenaha, Kerens, San Augustine, and Big Sandy.

Tatum or Kountze could be as close to dominant as we see this year in 2A, as both teams return a lot of players from very strong teams last year.

Nothing really in 3A+ that stands out to me...

No dominant teams in 3a? Are yall crazy? Kilgore is gonna be a force once they get their football players. They will be at the regional tournament if not the state tournament if they can make it past Triple A and Madison.

Wow - Kilgore???? that is a first.   They have no chance vs AAA or if they get there Madison or Yates.  You have no idea

Well, laughable as it sounds, it would be nice. Dallas schools have had Commerce on lockdown for a while now. I would love to see an east Texas 3A win region 2 for a change.

They made the Regional Quarterfinals last year. Their 4 best players are Juniors. Gonna start 6'8, 6'4, 6'3, 6'3 and 6'0. They will have another 6'8 coming off the bench. Go ahead and sleep on them.

It doesn't matter who they are bringing back, I saw them play last year. There is no way in the world they can beat AAA!!!!

I don't know if they win the State Championship if they stay healthy. Much more competitive for the Stallions this year. A district title isn't even a shoe in, as they have to play the defending State Champs from Madison twice...

I believe they will make the Regional Tournament, but not 100% sure they win it all this year. They will be in the mix...

I think next year is their best bet to bring home the hardware in 3A with McClure and company seniors...

Never known Kilgore to be a powerhouse at basketball. They may not be bad, and they very well could be a decent playoff team, but I don't think they fit the "Dominant" bill.

That said, I really cannot think of any 3A programs in east Texas that will dominate this year. There are a lot of good programs, but nobody that is just downright dominant.

AAA didn't graduate a thing. Madison did. I'm not saying AAA will win that district but I feel like they are the favorite out of that region. They could of competed with Madison last year, if McClure was healthy.

In 3A region 2, districts 13 thru 16 are on one quarter of the bracket so someone from east Texas will be in the regional tournament from east Texas.  Last year Liberty Eylau was a bit of a surprise getting there. Who do yall think is the strongest team from those 4 districts?

The Van Tournament should give us a good early preview of the Region 2-3A quarter bracket.  Kilgore and Chapel Hill will still be in football mode, but it's a good representation of those districts:
  • 13-3A: Paris, Liberty-Eylau, Pleasant Grove, North Lamar, Pittsburg
  • 14-3A: Crandall, Rains
  • 15-3A: Athens, Brownsboro, Van, Canton, Mineola
  • 16-3A: Kilgore, Chapel Hill

Keep an eye on Paris.  They've got some good depth and relative size (6-4/6-5) for a change.  Billy Mack Steed has racked up 6 straight 20-win seasons at the school, but the past 3 were done with smoke-and-mirrors.  He's got some legit basketball skill to work with this year.
